Guns
In a country so saturated, if not by paranoia then by its comfortable acquaintance with violence, I think there is no real hope for gun control. Banning guns here would be like banning wine in France or sex in Italy. Guns and violence are consumed from infancy in the U.S., and by this I mean the toys, the video games, the trashy movies with their car chases and and obligatory scenes where people are blown to bits. This inoculation at so tender an age makes the average citizen completely immune to seeing how violent a culture we are, both here and overseas. Asking the average man here about the propriety of violence in our nurturing and in our entertainment would be like asking him what color the sky is or why his favorite hockey is team is his favorite.
